Claire & Nugget

Claire & Nugget

Nugget and I have been together for almost three years now. I had lost my first puppy, Oats, a couple of weeks before to leptospirosis. It was heart-shattering, and I had a really difficult time. Two weeks later, I got an email from a place (I had added myself to the waitlist months prior). With no intention of getting another dog, I opened the email. I took one look at the available puppies, saw his face, and was on the phone giving a deposit to ensure that he could be mine. The day after, I picked him up and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

I call him my “little alien” because he is an odd duck. Very silly and vocal. He’s extraordinarily loyal, with many of the typical cocker spaniel traits. He is a big “mama’s boy” and very picky about any other company. He has some nervous nelly tendencies. He is great with my friends and family but takes some warming up to new friends.

He is my entire world. So, when things started to go wrong with his health, it took a toll on mine. At twelve months of age, he started having staph infections, full-body rashes, and ear infections. He has tried over forty different types of food and gone to hundreds of trips to the vet and the doggy dermatologist. I spent everything I had trying to understand what could possibly be happening to him. So much so that he remains the most expensive thing I own. Anyone who has been through this experience knows that the world of dog allergies it is a very frustrating and disappointing guessing game.

The process of elimination leads me to believe that the difficulty he has is the digestion of typical proteins. He cannot digest beef, chicken, lamb, pork, or fish. Even obscure meats, like kangaroo. I had started making my own food for him, but he was losing too much weight and I could tell he wasn’t satiated. A friend of mine found Wilder Harrier for me. I bought it the next day thinking “what’s the worst that could happen?”. The first day passed. Then the first week, then a second week... I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop because each experience with a new food had always ended in a rash.

But nothing bad happened. In fact, he got better. He was like a new dog.

I recommend this food to literally everyone I know. It's incredible. The fact that you just have to click a couple of buttons and it’s delivered right to you makes life so easy. It’s so much better for the environment and has given me peace of mind that I haven’t had in three years. Because of this food, Nugget felt full after every meal and was no longer focused on human food. His energy levels exploded and his desire for active play doubled. Not miserably itching, or on zonk-out medications, he was able to just enjoy his life.

He was finally my little man again.
